Having trouble registering for classes you want/need?

  • Keep in mind that if you are trying to sign into a class that is full, the only person who can authorize a course overload is the instructor of the class. You can download a drop/add form here (under Drop/Add form).  Once the instructor signs off on the completed form, you can drop it off in the registrar’s office in the Mossman building. Make sure the form is completely filled out and bring your student ID. The website for the Registrar’s office is here. If you are looking up contact information for an instructor, check the directory here. Email is usually the best way to contact an instructor.  Please be patient during academic breaks (i.e. Summer Session I & II), as many faculty are not on campus then and may not check email frequently.
  • If you are having trouble with a prerequisite or cohort restriction issue, feel free to contact us (casa@uncg.edu) or the department of the desired course (i.e. Biology, Math, English) for clarification. Transfer students should make sure all transfer credits have been articulated if you believe you have already met a prerequisite. You can check your Degree Works Report to see if your credits have transferred or call the registrar’s office at 336-334-5946 for confirmation.
  • If a course you want is full and the instructor can’t sign you in, be sure to check in UNCGenie under Class Schedule on a regular basis (a couple of times a day) to see if seats become available.  Make sure you have your advising code handy (you receive your advising code when you meet with your advisor) so you can register quickly if seats in the class open up.  If you are not sure how to look at UNCGenie or register, make an appointment with your advisor. These are some helpful resources for looking up and registering for classes:
  • Finally, if you are unable to register into a class before the start of the semester, know that registration adjustments can be made until 11:59pm on Friday of the first week of classes. Lots of people drop and add classes during the first week, so you may be able to find a seat then. You can also try going to the class the first day and to see if the instructor will sign you in. Be sure to take a drop/add form with you.
